Owning a Franchise Business and Continuing Work: Can You Do It All?
With the demands of the current world, most people are looking at how they can become business owners and continue working.
This is where the concept of hiring your next boss comes in: is it yourself? Is it someone else? Can you do both? With everyone trying to do it all, the answer is not always the same.
Compare Being a Franchise Owner to Working for Someone Else
On average, an individual retired at the age of 65. By the time you are 50, you are probably already considering whether you should continue working full time or whether you should devote your time to starting a business, big or small, franchise or family-owned.
We say that it is better to compare apples to apples. Think of a specific goal in mind and assess your options.
For example, if your goal is to retire at 65 years old and also have time to spend with your children or grandchildren, you should compare the options you have:
- Time Considerations: Will working for someone else allow you time on that specific goal? Does starting your own business allow you that time?
- Risk Taking: Is the risk of starting a business and failing in that business set you back on your timeline? How can you get back on your feet?
The answer is not going to be the same for everyone else.

How to become a big business owner at 50?
You always need to consider time as either in your favor or not. While the considerations are the same for those who are 30 years old versus those who are 50 years old for starting a business, the factors are very different.
There’s a lot of hard work that goes into owning a franchise but the rewards can be lucrative, and the risk can be significantly less than starting your own venture.
For example, if you are already 50 years old and considering starting a business, the risk you are taking is bigger compared to those who are younger. Younger individuals can get back into employment easier compared to those who have already reached a certain age.
